Ohio Man Sentenced For Drug Conviction

WHEELING - A Thornville, Ohio, man was sentenced to nine years in prison today for having a large amount of methamphetamine on Wheeling Island.

Christopher W. Thomas, 33, pled guilty to a possession charge in May 2022. During a traffic stop of Thomas's vehicle, officers found 79 grams of methamphetamine and more than 240 grams of fentanyl, some of which was in the form of counterfeit Xanax pills. Thomas also had other items to manufacture the pills, including a metal pill press with hydraulic jack, cutting agents and a portable mixer. Officers also recovered a loaded 9mm pistol, a box of ammunition, and nearly $5,000 cash.

The Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative; West Virginia State Police; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated.

Deputies called to dispute in Barnesville

BARNESVILLE - Deputies with the Belmont County Sheriff's office responded Tuesday night to reports of an argument at a residence off of Sandy Ridge Road. While some rumors on social media speculated that it was a hostage situation, Sheriff David Lucas said this was not the case, the other persons had already left the residence and there was no arrest made. He said a report will be forwarded over to the prosecutor's office for consideration.

The Elm Grove Eagles Aerie No. 1891 will hold an election of officers from noon-7 p.m. Friday.

WMC Auxiliary Organizing Jewelry And Accessories Sale

WEIRTON -- The Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary will be holding a $5 Masquerade jewelry and accessories sale.

It will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m on May 7 and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m on May 8. The sale will be held in the medical center atrium located on Colliers Way.

100 Women in Red observance Saturday at Mount Carmel

STEUBENVILLE -- The EmpowHER Women's Ministry of Mount Carmel Community Baptist Church, 708 N. Fifth St., will host its annual 100 Women in Red on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The guest speaker is Minister Tamara Knight from the Bright Side Baptist Church in Lancaster, Pa. All women of all ages are invited to attend. A love offering will be accepted, and refreshments will be served. The Rev. Benjamin Calvert is the senior pastor.
