Thomas Granted Extension Before Incarceration

Former Belmont County commissioner, St. Clairsville councilman and attorney Mark Thomas has been granted a delay until June 9 until turning himself in to serve his 5-year sentence in federal prison. Thomas pleaded guilty to mail fraud unrelated to his public service. The conviction is related to the theft of more than $882,000 from an elderly woman with dementia. He committed the crime while acting as power of attorney for his then-client. According to the office of Judge Algenon Marbley of the U.S. Southern District of Ohio, Thomas' was granted a delay in order to reschedule a doctor's appointment.

Wheeling Police Probe Stabbing

Wheeling Police are investigating a stabbing that happened Wednesday afternoon in Center Wheeling.

Around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, police and fire personnel were called to the 2200 block of Lane E for a report of a stabbing victim. Moments later, a man showed up at Wheeling Fire Headquarters saying he was assaulted in the area.

A female victim was taken to WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital by fire department paramedics for treatment. The victims' status currently is unknown, and no arrests have been made. Police are continuing to investigate.

Sobriety Checkpoint Set In Triadelphia

The West Virginia State Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Ohio County on National Road near the Triadelphia Volunteer Fire Department in Triadelphia from 6 p.m. today until midnight. The checkpoint will be conducted in an effort to deter intoxicated driving in this area.

According to information from the State Police, "It is not the intention of the West Virginia State Police to inconvenience any of the motoring public, but only to make the roadways safer for those traveling in West Virginia. If anyone feels they do not wish to travel through the checkpoint on National Road because they feel inconvenienced, they can take an alternate route. The alternate routes are Stinger Road to Bain Street if traveling westbound and Bain Street to Stinger Road if traveling eastbound on National Road."

Man Sentenced For Drug Trafficking

A Youngstown, Ohio, man was sentenced Wednesday to more than 12 years in prison for supplying methamphetamine and fentanyl to northern West Virginia.

Kamron Eugene Miller, Sr., 36, will serve 152 months of incarceration for his role as a leader in a drug conspiracy. The investigation revealed that Miller supplied a co-conspirator nearly a kilogram of crystal methamphetamine along with 21 grams of fentanyl which was then redistributed in Hancock County.
