Community Day, Other Events Rescheduled In St. C.

ST. CLAIRSVILLE City leaders reminded residents Monday of several upcoming community events. The Community Day that had been set for this past Saturday was rescheduled to 4 p.m. this coming Sunday due to concerns for possible bad weather.
Recreation Director Eric Gay hopes the public will turn out at the Central Park amphitheater. The celebration will feature live music and fireworks.
Mayor Kathryn Thalman also noted the St. Clairsville Chamber of Commerce will again sponsor Second Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. this Saturday.
The event features music, food trucks and businesses selling their wares.
A bicycle parade for youths is also scheduled, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the courthouse steps. Judging will begin at 10:45 a.m.
Council also heard from Max Warnick, volunteer with the Free Bike Ministry of the Ohio Valley, who said 25 free bicycles will be donated to community children. Chamber Director Wendy Anderson said several area people are donating their bicycles.
In other matters, Safety and Service Director Jeremy Greenwood said laying pipe under Interstate 70 for the main water line from the water treatment plant will begin Wednesday.
A temporary waterline has run along Reservoir Road for more than a year since the main waterline was found to be leaking and in need of replacement. The west end waterline distribution project will begin soon after.
In answer to a question from Councilwoman Beth Oprisch, Greenwood said the city could begin purchasing water by a tentative date of Oct. 31.
In addition, the recreation center's heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit is malfunctioning and must be replaced. Greenwood said current quotes are in the range of $34,000. Greenwood said the recreation center would need to be heated come the winter months.
