Moundsville Country Club To Host Honeywell Junior Invitational Golf Scramble July 24

By LAUREN TAYLOR 2 min read

MOUNDSVILLE -- The 17th Annual Honeywell Junior Invitational golf scramble is hitting the greens at the Moundsville Country Club on July 24 with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

The free tournament is sponsored by Honeywell Corp. and the Moundsville Country Club and invites golfers ages 8-18 to participate.

George Jones, a board member at the country club, says the tournament is all about getting young people excited about golf.

"They're our future," he said. "The local kids really need to get interested in golf, and there's a lot of golfers in the schools around here, so we wanted to do something for the juniors."

The tournament falls right before the first week high school sports can begin practicing for play in the fall, and signals the start of high school and junior high golf seasons.

Trophies will be awarded to the top golfers from each division. The tournament will split participants into divisions based on age and gender as follows: 12 and under, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18 and a separate female division.

Jones says although it's a competition with awards, he hopes many golfers come to have fun.

"It's just a fun day, and the kids seem to have a good time which is why we've tried to encourage more kids to join," he said.

The 18-hole stroke play tournament will accept the first 108 golfers to register and each participant will receive a complimentary lunch. Spectators are also welcome with spectator golf carts available for a small fee.

Registration information can be found on the Moundsville Country Club's website at www.moundsvillecountryclub.com/index.shtml.
