WHEELING -- Just as the leaves start to turn colors and football season begins, the Cathedral of St. Joseph and Macedonia Baptist Church in Wheeling jointly will host their annual Community Fall Festival later this month.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 24 along the streets near the Cathedral at 1300 Eoff St. in East Wheeling.
Food options will be a stand-out at the event, and feature items prepared by local chefs and businesses -- such as Rocco Basil, DiCarlo's Pepperoni Rolls, Antonio's Authentic Italian Sausage, and Italian baked goods from Dolci Franci.
Over 20 vendors will be present selling crafts, food, handmade goods, and mums.
Meanwhile, a DJ will provide music for the first half of the festival, then the band Eli and the Mojo Kings take the stage from 4-7 p.m.
Beverages available will include cider from the Cider House, beer, wine from Casa Di Vino, soft drinks, and coffee from the Tacet Coffee cart.
There will be games, activities and inflatables for children who attend. Youths will be able to participate in face painting and a roller-skating rink, and there will be pumpkin patch where they can pick their own pumpkins to paint and take home.
Guided tours of the Cathedral will be available throughout the day.
"This year, we've expanded in all aspects of the festival, especially those activities appealing to families," said Robert Felton, a member of the festival planning committee. "Diving into the fall theme has been a fun twist and pairing with the Macedonia Baptist Church helped take the event to the next level."
During a recent meeting between the church councils of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and Macedonia Baptist Church, it was suggested that the two churches partner together for a Fall Festival "to help build a true spirit of community and collaboration," explained Tyler Greenwood, pastoral assistant at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
"We have a talented and dedicated group of individuals serving on our festival planning committee who have been working diligently over the past several months to make this festival enjoyable for people of all ages and interests," he added. "We are excited to be partnering with our neighbors at Macedonia Baptist Church this year as we strive to build greater community spirit. Pastor Marshall Davis and his wife Twila have been very helpful in the planning process and they have some great ideas to make this event a fun-filled day for the whole community."
