New Salvation Army Caseworker Holding Office Hours Each Week in Moundsville

The Wheeling-Ohio County Salvation Army is holding new office hours for its assistance programs in Wheeling and Moundsville.
The organization offers utility, rent and food assistance to residents in need. A new caseworker, Dawn Greaves, is now working one day a week at the Moundsville office, 700 Jefferson Ave.
People can call and make an appointment at 304-233-4400 for either the Moundsville or Wheeling office, 140 16th St., Wheeling. Walk-ins are welcome, too.
"We hired a full-time caseworker here and she is spending one day a week, Thursday, in Moundsville," said Lt. John Lawrence, commander of the Wheeling-Ohio County Salvation Army.
"We were without a caseworker so my wife, Candace, was doing the casework here and in Moundsville."
The Moundsville hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Thursdays. Food will also be handed out at the pantry during these hours.
The Wheeling hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and on Fridays. Food is also available at the Wheeling location.
Lawrence noted clothing and/or household goods vouchers that can be used in the army's thrift store located, 138 16th St., Wheeling, can be picked up at the Wheeling office.
Lt. Candace Lawrence, who co-commands the local Salvation Army branch, said there are no income requirements to receive help. The army just needs a person's most recent bill, photo ID, and pay stubs.
Regarding rental assistance, applicants must have a copy of the most recent lease agreement with contact information from the landlord or agency.
There are no income requirements for the food pantry.
"We're seeing an increase in families we're serving in Moundsville compared to the month before," she said.
Candace Lawrence said the army is still looking to sell its current building and find another location with a storefront to use.
Property owners who might have a storefront for the organization to use in Moundsville can call the office at 304-233-4400.
Meanwhile, those who are looking to get rid of used furniture, including couches and chairs, can have it picked up by the army. The items must be located in Ohio or Marshall counties and be in good condition.
