No one was believed injured Tuesday morning when an Ohio County Schools bus with no children on board was struck by a passing vehicle.
David Crumm, director of operations, said the accident occurred just after 7 a.m. on Boggs Hill Road. There were no passengers on the bus, he reported.
"Our driver was on the correct side of the road, while the other vehicle was on the wrong side. The vehicle moved and hit the side of the bus, and also a telephone pole," Crumm said.
The incident was being investigated Tuesday by the Ohio County Sheriff's Department.
After learning of the incident, workers at the Ohio County Schools bus garage went into motion to notify parents and students through the Parent Portal Lite app that there would be a delay in pick ups.
Other bus drivers were notified of the accident. The Boggs Hill route is a common route for buses to travel to get to other routes, and these drivers were able to pick up students they saw standing along the road, Crumm explained.
But those buses also were held up as many had to go a slightly different route. Administrators at the affected schools were also notified.
Also coming to the scene were Superintendent Kim Miller and Elizabeth Coss, transportation director.
"We are very pleased with our team and they were able to get things taken care of as soon as possible," Crumm said.
He added that as a general rule, motorists should always watch out for flashing red lights.
"They should know that our buses are out," Crumm continued. "We appreciate everybody working together to keep students and drivers safe."
