North Wheeling Water Issues Cause Outage, Road Closure

About 100 customers in North Wheeling were without water Monday and part of Market Street in the area was blocked off as crews repaired a water valve and main underneath Market Street.
Assistant City Manager Bill Lanham said crews were replacing a water valve that was original to the city's system dating back to the 1840s. The crew thought it had the water flow to the valve restricted, but Lanham said that didn't hold, which impacted a 30-inch water line and another 20-inch line.
Water flow was stopped on the line and the crews were digging under Market Street between Seventh and Eighth streets to fix the problem. Lanham said Market Street in that section will be closed until repairs are complete.
Water was supposed to be restored by Monday evening, he added, but there could be some brown water due to sediment.
Because of this a boil order was issued for the following addresses in the area: 600-751 Main St., 700-747 Market St., 17-27 Sixth St., 15-24 & 33 Seventh St., 506-526 Alley B and any that lost pressure or have discolored water.
Customers should boil water for 48 hours after service is restored. A second notification will be sent once the boil order has been released.
