Thursday Music Club Announces This Week’s Program

BETHLEHEM -- The Thursday Music Club's next membership coffee/tea will feature five young and accomplished local student artists.

The program for this Thursday, scheduled for 11 a.m. at CharHouse on the Boulevard, will have five students perform that received Superior with Honors at the club's Auditions Program this past March 24 and 25. These students are from area schools and taught by the Ohio Valley teachers.

Three students will be receiving the Carol Austin Scholarship Award. Ava Bretz is a senior at Union Local High School. She has studied piano for 10 years under William Hines of Caldwell, Ohio. She has been an active participant in the marching band, concert band and is section leader of the drumline.

McKenna Everson is a sophomore at St. Clairsville High School. She is a student of Chelsey Keding. She is a member of the St. C singers and Players. Everson also participates in student council, French club, Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy, the gifted program, and many other activities.

Jack Anderson attends Jefferson County Christian School and is a student of Martha McLaughlin. He plays piano in the junior high school Praise Band, and has interests in soccer, basketball and swimming.

Two students will be receiving the Thursday Music Club Award for Superior with Honors. Cecelia Burig, a student of Tonie Sivert, is a senior at McGuffey High School. Her passions include singing and visual arts of all mediums. Tyler Stevens is a senior at Magnolia High School. He is a student of Barbara Daly and is studying voice with Dr. Angela Day. Tyler is a member of the marching band, concert band, jazz band, percussion ensemble and choir.

There is no charge but guests must have a reservation. Call Sandy Smith at 304-242-1628 to make a reservation. Smith and fellow members Linda Hemphill and Betty Lane will greet members and guests at the door. Those interested can join The Thursday Music Club any time.

The Program Committee with chair Anita Chops has put together the club's events through May. They are as follows: Oct. 5, Rachel Price; Nov. 2, Joyce Jingle and Wheeling Park High School singers; Dec. 7, Faire May; January, no meeting; Feb. 1, JoAnn Davis; March 7, WVU Jazz Band; April 4, The Thursday Music Club Chorus Spring Concert; May TBA -- Inaugural Luncheon.

The Thursday Music Club Study Group is hoping to meet the second Monday in October, Judy Szymialis, chairman, will decide meeting place and time. For more information call Judy at 304-242-5423.
