Carlito’s Soul Kitchen in Wheeling To Close Oct. 28

Carlito's Soul Kitchen is scheduled to close in about two weeks.
Owner Jeramie Alvarado made the announcement on the North Wheeling restaurant's social media page on Sunday.
"If you have not been here yet, come out sometime in the next two weeks and have a last supper with us," he wrote. "Our last day being open will be Oct. 28. We have a couple of lease options to lease this space as well as a few interested in purchasing these beautiful buildings.
"All three buildings 749 Main, 751 Main, and 753 Main St. are all on the market and ready for some new investors," he added.
Alvarado also thanked his patrons for their support.
"We appreciate all of the support and wonderful guests we have had in this last year," he said. "We have made some lifelong memories and got to meet some wonderful people.
"I cannot thank all of my staff enough for putting up with me ... and working so hard to make this place beautiful. On to the next chapter."
In previous reports, Alvarado talked about the significant investment he made into the buildings, noting he spent about $500,000 on renovations. It opened in October 2022.
The eatery just this past June was awarded a $40,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express to make additional improvements to the historic structure.
Alvarado did not mention in his Sunday post exactly why he planned to close the eatery, but he has talked on social media about the importance of people supporting local businesses.
