MOUNDSVILLE -- A Christmas tree auction raised more than $12,000 for the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce.

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Extravaganza Fundraiser took place Wednesday evening at the Moundsville Center.

Scott Reager, executive director of the chamber, said the showcase featured many decorated items including 17 trees, three mantles, six wreaths, and two tabletop decorations.

"WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital claimed top honors, raising $780 with their Nutcracker-themed Christmas Tree," Reager said. "The charity tree, benefiting the Marshall County Education Foundation, raised $1,110 upon resale. Ruttenberg's 'Don't Stop Believin' Tree decorated by Becky Vucelick secured the Community Favorite Award.

"The event drew a substantial crowd, marking a prosperous beginning to the holiday season."

He noted the presenting sponsor for the festive event was WesBanco.

The extravaganza is an important annual event for the chamber as it raises funds for its year-round programming.

"This event marks the beginning of the holiday season, businesses and organizations are gearing up for increased holiday traffic by embellishing their buildings and office spaces with festive decorations," Reager said. "The chamber is a nonprofit organization funded by membership dues and fundraisers."
