Recycling Program in Moundsville Expanding

By From Staff Reports 1 min read

MOUNDSVILLE -- The city of Moundsville's recycling program is now taking plastic bags and plastic film.

For example, plastics such as grocery bags, bubble wrap, product plastic wrap, shrink wrap and newspaper sleeves can be dropped off at the city's sanitation at 801 Brown St. on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The city describes the type of plastics now being taken as "squishable."

The facility also takes mixed paper and glass. The city still does not take hard plastic bottles because it has not found a vendor to accept them for recycling.

"City Council and the administration are excited about this next step in the recycling program, which began in early 2021," according to a press release from the city. "A grant from the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection's REAP program started the program and the city was successful in obtaining another grant in 2023.

"In the first three quarters of 2023, over 58,000 pounds of paper and cardboard were recycled and kept out of landfills," it added.

The center averages 54 drop-offs per week. For more information, call 304-845-3394.
