WHEELING -- The Salvation Army of Wheeling's "Angel Trees" are going up throughout the area this week, and they are decorated with more angels than ever.
There are 462 angels on the tree this year, up from 434 last year, said Nathan Blake, community relations officer for the Salvation Army in Wheeling.
Each angel represents a local youth in need of help this Christmas season. Each angel tag notes the child's gender, age and their wish list items.
And just what do the children want this year? Many are asking for Pokemon items or video games, according to Blake. Girls are wanting makeup or Barbie dolls following the popularity of the Barbie movie. Superhero merchandise is particularly a favorite among boys, he added.
Anyone interested in bringing Christmas to a child by taking an angel tag is asked to return their completed shopping by December 1 to the Salvation Army at 140 16th St. in Wheeling.
Those shopping for the Angel Tree also are asked to include the Angel Tag or Angel Code in each bag to assist in determining which family the gifts belong to. All items should remain unwrapped.
Angel tree locations Include Walmart, JCPenny, Cabela's and Hobby Lobby at The Highlands; the Mt. DeChantal and Warwood Kroger stores; Riesbecks in Elm Grove; Walmart and Big Lots in Moundsville; and Riesbeck's and Walmart in New Martinsville.

The Salvation Army of Wheeling also is in need of volunteer bell ringers this holiday season.
Blake estimates there are thus far 65 volunteers committed.
"We're over half way to what we need," he said. "We need around 65. We would like to get to 100."
