MOUNDSVILLE - Employees at the Mitchell Power Plant in Marshall County offered some extra help to the Haven Maternity Home in Moundsville on Wednesday. On top of delivering a donation to the organization, a group from the Mitchell Plant rolled up their sleeves and assisted in renovating the building's kitchen.

The group gutted the kitchen at Haven Maternity Home on Moundsville's 2nd Street. The building is a three-story 1910 Victorian home that can house three pregnant women as well as any toddlers they have. Women may live on the premises until their child is 6 months old, while developing a life plan and gaining skills to live independently.

The act of kindness is part of the AEP Caring Together mini-grant program, which has fulfilled needs in both Ohio and Marshall counties.

AEP Administrator Kelly Clemons wrote seven successful grant applications to provide seed money for the projects. The Mitchell team, including many supervisors, engineers, chemists, administrative assistants, accounting team members, operators, superintendents, retirees, and contractors collected all kinds of items to support each of these organizations.

Organizations supported include The Gabriel Project, Youth Services System, Marshall County Parent Educator Association, Marshall County Family Resource Network, the Communities in Schools programs at both Washington Lands Elementary School and Moundsville Middle and Haven Maternity Home.
