Small Tent Fire
Near Tunnel Green
A tent fire at a homeless encampment near Tunnel Green at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday resulted in one homeless person receiving minor injuries, according to Wheeling Police Spokesman Phillip Stahl. The homeless person refused treatment.
The fire was categorized as a brush fire due to its location along the tree line, with Stahl clarifying that only a small tent fire occurred.
Due to the camp's location near Interstate 70, the eastbound on-ramp to the highway was closed to traffic to allow fire apparatuses to gain access to the area. Traffic conditions were not impacted due to the fire occurring early in the morning, said Stahl.
The eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 70 opened shortly after, and the WPD is still investigating how the fire was started. Stahl cited the "smokey conditions" in the area as a possible contributor to the event.
WPHS Festival Of Sound Is Dec. 15-17
WHEELING -- The "Festival of Sound" at Wheeling Park High School will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 in the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center. In addition, there will be a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. The festival features the performances of students from the music programs at WPHS.
Ohio County BOE Sets Next Meetings
WHEELING -- The Ohio County Board of Education has two meetings scheduled for next week. It will meet for a regular session at 6 p.m. Monday at the board office, 2203 National Road, Elm Grove. It will then meet for a work session at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the board office, Board members that day are set to discuss allocation of excess levy funds in 2024.

Authority To Meet
WHEELING -- The Ohio County Development Authority will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Highlands Event Center.
Angel Tree Gifts Still Being Accepted
WHEELING -- The Salvation Army of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler counties is still accepting Angel Tree gifts. Gifts can be dropped off at 3333 Eoff St. in Wheeling through Monday, Dec.11. Gifts can also be dropped off at the store location where the Angels were picked up. The Salvation Army of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, & Tyler counties wish to thank each and everyone who has taken an angel or has done a toy drive to make sure the over 500 kids on their Angel Trees have a blessed Christmas.
