Wheeling Elks Lodge No. 28 has announced its Students of the Month for December and January. The December winners are Kathryn Prather and Grant Kenamond, both seniors at Wheeling Park High School. For January, Brooklyn Wayt and Asher Higham, both seniors at The Linsly School, are the winners.
Prather, the daughter of Elizabeth and John Prather of Wheeling, is captain of her school's science and quiz bowl teams. She is a National Merit Semifinalist, and the current valedictorian of her class. She participated in an eight-week internship at the U. S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. She is also a four-year letterman in soccer, and is a member of the Wheeling Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Kenamond, the son of Lori and Carter Kenamond of Wheeling, is a two-time AP Scholar with Distinction. He is a National Merit Semifinalist, and is a three-time first place winner of the Stifel Award. He is the debate division leader of his school's speech and debate team, and is the founder of his school's Linguistics Club. He also volunteers regularly with the Wheeling Symphony and the Laughlin Chapel.
Wayt, the daughter of Heather and Michael Wayt of Wheeling, is the head prefect at Linsly, and is captain of the soccer team. She is the head editor of The Linsly Line. She also volunteers regularly with the Wheeling Symphony, and at both WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Higham, the son of Amy and Jay Higham of Wheeling, is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. He has participated in basketball, tennis, and lacrosse. He is a member of the FCA Club. He also volunteers as a student leader with his church youth group, and is a Night to Shine volunteer.
