Work Continues on $1.5 Million Artisan Center Renovations in Downtown Wheeling

Work on the $1.5 million renovation project at the Wheeling Artisan Center continues in downtown Wheeling.
Workers could be seen Friday afternoon doing painting work in the center atrium area of the building and in the space being renovated to become the new home of the artisan gift shop on the first floor.
The shop is still open on the second floor.
River City Restaurant already has been consolidated to one side of the first floor and is up and running in its newly renovated space. The remaining renovation work to the shop area is anticipated to be finished early this year. The entire project will cost $1.5 million.
Accelerated Construction Services of Morgantown is the general contractor. This project is being funded by a $1 million federal earmark, $750,000 from the city's American Rescue Plan Act fund and with support from Wheeling Heritage, which owns the building.
Located at 1400 Main St., the Wheeling Artisan Center building was built in the 1860s and has three floors. It was first renovated in 1996 at a cost of $6 million. It contains the Wheeling Heritage offices, Artisan Center, River City Restaurant and rental, gallery and event space.
This latest renovation also includes plans to construct outdoor seating along the building's 14th Street side. This will occur after the Downtown Streetscape project is finished sometime in 2025.
The exterior painting work on the building was conducted last year.
