A McMechen man died early Saturday morning in an ATV crash in rural Marshall County, county Sheriff BIll Helms said.
Billy Jack Powell, 21, died in a crash about six miles south of Cameron on U.S. 250, Helms said. A group of people were riding in the area when Powell got separated from the pack. Helms said the group went looking for Powell and couldn't find him, but was able to find his vehicle.
The group left with the vehicle that night, Helms said, and returned to the area in the morning to look for Powell again. It was then, Helms said, that they found Powell's body over the hill around 11 a.m.
Helms added that according to initial investigations, it was a single-vehicle crash where the vehicle hit a guardrail and Powell was ejected from it. Sheriff's deputies have interviewed the people who saw Powell last. No foul play is suspected.
Powell's body has been sent for an autopsy to determine actual cause of death and to run a drug and alcohol analysis, Helms said.
