Work Begins on Replacing Wheeling’s Market Street Bridge

Workers with Merlo Construction of Mineral Point, Pennsylvania, cut away at the bridge deck of the Market Street Bridge in downtown Wheeling on Monday. Merlo has been contracted to remove and replace the bridge’s deck so it can reopen following a fire underneath it. That fire damaged the bridge to a point where it had to close on June 7, 2022. The bridge is expected to reopen this July. The cost of the project is estimated at $1.3 million.
