Hart: Storm Knocked Out Power to About 5,000 in Marshall County; Most Restored by Thursday Afternoon

A severe thunderstorm on Wednesday evening resulted in about 5,000 Marshall County residents losing electric power for a time.

Tom Hart, director of the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency, said as of Thursday afternoon about 1,000 people were still without power, but the others had their power restored.

"The restoration crews are doing a good job of getting that taken care of," he noted.

He also said the storm knocked down some trees, utility lines and poles across the county.

"There were no reports of structures damaged," he said. "There was one car in Moundsville damaged from a tree falling on it."

Hart said the county, much like the rest of the region, was under a tornado watch Wednesday night, but no tornadoes were reported.

"It was a strong storm system that moved through. There may have been some straight line winds, but no tornado warnings were issued."

Because of the power outages, most Marshall County schools operated on a two-hour delay while Moundsville Middle School and the Gateway Achievement Center both closed due to the outage and debris on the roads from the storm.
