Bridge Street Middle School Principal Jessica Broski-Birch is embarking on a new adventure in education - but she won't be traveling far.
Broski-Birch was announced Thursday as the new head of school at Wheeling Country Day School, an independent school with campuses on Park Road, Wheeling Park and West Virginia Northern Community College. She steps into the position held for the last 15 years by Liz Hofreuter.
"I am honored and thrilled to step into the role of Head of School in such an esteemed institution," Broski-Birch said. "I am committed to upholding the line of excellence that has been laid and am dedicated to preserving and enhancing the pillars of culture and innovation.
"With the support of the Wheeling Country Day faculty and staff, the Board, students, families and community, I am confident that we will uphold the integrity of the present and shape the future," she continued.
Broski-Birch has served as Bridge Street's principal since 2019. She has been with Ohio County Schools since 2012, serving as a middle school English and language arts teacher prior to leading BSMS.
Broski-Birch also has teaching experience with Allegheny Intermediate Unit (2010-12) and Braxton County Schools (2007-09), where she served as an elementary school teacher.
Wheeling Country Day School serves students from as young as 2 years old through middle school.

Broski-Birch's appointment to the position came following an extensive search that began last year.
Hofreuter said it has been a joyful experience leading WCDS for the last decade and a half and she has appreciated all the love received over the years.
"It has been an inspiring and fulfilling journey personally," Hofreuter said. "I have such a deep gratitude for the outpouring of support for the school and for me. And now I get the joy of passing the baton to Jessica, and the next chapter of Country Day begins."
