The city of Moundsville plans to hold two informational meetings about the city's new Rental Registration Program.
Moundsville City Council approved a related ordinance last year that mandates that all rental properties be registered with the city and pass a building codes inspection.
"This program was created to ensure that tenants in Moundsville are given the opportunity to reside in clean, safe, and sanitary structures," according to the city's social media. The city notes that letters were mailed to rental property owners informing them of the new law.
"The first step is to register the property with the Building Inspection Office. There is no charge to register the property," according to the city. "At some point, an inspection of the property will be scheduled. The inspection checklist centers on health and safety items."
To explain the program in detail, two public meetings have been slated: 9-11 a.m. April 9 and 4:30-6:30 p.m. April 25 at City Council Chambers at the city building, 800 Sixth St.

There will be no initial cost to register one's rental property, but a "minimal fee" will be charged for a renewal or future inspections.
The property owner must provide contact information, general information about the property and pass a minimum standard health and safety inspection in order to be issued a Certificate of Use and Occupancy good for three years.
