MOUNDSVILLE - Marshall County continues to deal with the aftermath of this week's storms with road closures, mudslides and now an Ohio River flood.
Tom Hart, director of the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency, said as of Wednesday, several roads were closed across the county due to flooding, excessive runoff and mudslides or rocks. Those roads include: Little Grave Creek Road, Big Grave Creek Road, Middle Grave Creek Road, Fish Creek Road (several areas), Woodruff Road, Poplar Springs Road, Viola Road, Clouston Road (both sides of U S. 250), and Limestone Hill Road.
One northbound lane of the W.Va. 2 between Glen Dale and McMechen, known as the Narrows, also was closed Wednesday afternoon due to a mudslide there, Hart said.
He noted the EMA is also continuing to monitor the Ohio River, which is forecast to flood.
"The Ohio River at Moundsville is estimated to crest at 42.9 feet by early Friday morning," he said. "This height is considered a 'moderate' flood for Moundsville, which has a flood stage of 37 feet."
Rainfall amounts reached up to three inches in some areas of the county Sunday night, causing creeks in the county to run over their banks and onto roadway. Then more rain continued to fall on Monday and Tuesday.
"We had a county wide virtual flood briefing (Wednesday) morning," Hart said. "Then (Wednesday) afternoon we participated in a regional emergency management briefing.
"We still have several roadways across the county closed due to mudslides and rockslides. Highways crews are working to get as many safely opened as possible."
