WHEELING - Ohio County Schools will again offer free meals to students this summer.
The school district is participating in the Summer Child Nutrition Program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and no registration is necessary. Meals will be free to youths ages 2-18 at the following locations Monday through Friday beginning June 3 – Aug. 2. No adult meals will be available.
- The Chambers YMCA will offer breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
- The Hil-Dar Exley Center will serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
- The Salvation Army building on 33rd Street in South Wheeling will provide lunch from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
- Warwood Elementary lunch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- At Woodsdale Elementary, lunch is set for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Other locations are operating on different schedules.
- The Oglebay Wagon Shed Shelter will be the site of lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on weekdays beginning June 10-Aug. 2.
- The House of the Carpenter will offer lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning June 3-June 18.
- The West Virginia University Extension Camp at Camp Russell will provide lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on July 1-3.
- Ritchie Elementary will be the site for breakfast weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.; and lunch, from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. between June 24 and July 19.
- Wheeling Park High School will offer breakfast each weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., and lunch from 12:15 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. from June 3-18.
- Madison Elementary will serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. beginning June 24 through Aug. 2.
Students must be enrolled and on the roster for a specific program to receive meals at these locations:
- The Ohio Valley Learning Center will offer lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. from June 3-28; and again from July 8-Aug. 2.
- Meals also will be provided during the WPHS football and band camps.
There will be no food service on June 19 (Juneteenth), June 20 (West Virginia Day) or July 4 (Independence Day). Those wanting more information about the Summer Child Nutrition Program should contact the Ohio County Schools Child Nutrition Office at 304-243-0477, or 304-243-0486.
