Monica Rotellini-Myers -- owner and operator of Moe's On Main, a craft and gift shop in Follansbee -- wanted to see a craft show closer to her neck of the woods, one that her neighbors could enjoy without having to hop in the car and drive a significant time to attend.
So she decided to put one together herself.
"I wanted to try and put on a three-day craft show in our area up this way," she said. "In the Wheeling area, there are three-day craft shows, but there's not a whole lot up toward Follansbee that are three-day shows."
The inaugural Hullabaloo on the Hill craft and vendor show will run August 2-4 at the St. Francis Center at 805 Lee Rd. in Follansbee. The show will run from noon to 6 p.m. August 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. August 3 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 4. Entry to the event is free.
As of now, Rotellini-Myers said there are 40 vendors signed up for the event, and there are still spots available.
Among the vendors will be tumblers and woodworkers, clothes vendors and pursemakers. Rotellini-Myers offers custom on-the-spot gifts. Jewelry-makers will be on hand, as well as Tupperware and Pampered Chef representatives. Both indoor and outdoor booths will be available to peruse.
Rotellini-Myers said she's planning some features to keep kids entertained, and she's also putting together a feature to help kids in need.
A box will be set up for people to donate new or gently used clothes for school-aged children. Those clothes will then be donated to area schools to give to students who need them.
All of this is Rotellini-Myers' way of offering a new, fun opportunity in her community. It's also an opportunity for people to purchase wares from their neighbors. She said she's excited to see all the vendors, as there are some new ones she has yet to meet and view their products.
"I want to do this because I want it to be local," she said. "I have a store that's all local handmade crafts items and I want people from our area to see items from our area.
"I don't want it to be that everyone comes from all over," she continued. "Don't get me wrong, they have great products. But it's great to keep it small and to keep our money in our area to help build our economy."
