Wheeling fire and police personnel work on putting out a small fire at a house on Columbia Street in Elm Grove.
No one was injured after a small fire broke out in an Elm Grove home Thursday afternoon.
According to Wheeling Fire Department spokesman Philip Stahl, WFD was notified of the fire on Columbia Avenue around 12:13 p.m. Thursday. The fire began in the basement and spread slightly to the first floor in the back of the house.
Stahl said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and there was relatively minor damage to the home. The home's occupant and the animals living there were able to get out of the house safely. No firefighters were injured.
Firefighters stayed at the house for a short while to monitor hot spots, and investigators will try to figure out the cause of the blaze, Stahl said.
