Marshall County Man Sentenced on Multiple Charges Related to February Police Chase

A Glen Easton man was sentenced Monday to at least three years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges from a February police chase that resulted in a Marshall County deputy's injury.

Koleton Caruso, 24, pleaded guilty before Second Judicial Circuit Judge Jeffrey Cramer to two felonies - fleeing with reckless indifference and destruction of property - and two misdemeanors - battery on an officer and driving under the influence. Marshall County Prosecutor Joe Canestraro said Caruso will serve between three and 25 years on the charges, which will run consecutively.

He will serve that time after he finishes serving a 1-to-10-year sentence for a previous crime, Canestraro said. Then, following the sentence from Monday's plea, Canestraro said Caruso would have to serve at least another year on the misdemeanor charges.

According to officials, Caruso led Marshall County Sheriff's deputies on a chase, in which Caruso's vehicle collided with two police cruisers. One deputy hit his head on the roof of his cruiser after Caruso rammed into it.

Canestraro said the sentence was what his office requested and expected and he was pleased with how the sentencing turned out.

Caruso also faces charges in Ohio and Brooke counties as well as in Ohio, where he is accused of robbery.
