Ohio County Schools Announces Back-to-School Celebrations

Hundreds of new students and their families filter into Wheeling Park High School for a past Freshmen & New Student Tailgate event.

Students may not be happy that summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to return to the classroom, but Ohio County Schools is nevertheless hoping to put some smiles on their faces to begin the school year.

Each school building in Ohio County is planning back-to-school events to help students to the mindset of school.

New this year is that the former Warwood School has become two separate schools - Warwood Elementary and Warwood Middle School. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the schools is set for 3 p.m. on Aug. 15 in front of the schools. A back-to-school open house follows from 4-6 p.m. at both schools.

A gathering for kindergarten students will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 22, and for pre-kindergarten children from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 29.

Bethlehem Elementary

An open house will take place from 3-5 p.m. on Aug. 15.

Elm Grove Elementary

Back-to-School night is set for 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 15 for students in grades 1-5 and their families. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teachers will contact families with their date for meeting.

Madison Elementary

Students and parents are invited to come visit the school from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 13. They will have the opportunity to find their classroom, meet their teacher and enjoy a free dinner.

Ritchie Elementary

Ritchie Elementary's annual "Block Party and Meet the Teacher Day'' will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Aug. 15. All students will receive free school supplies and a free book bag once again this year, and parents do not need to purchase these items.

Steenrod Elementary

School wide "all calls" will begin this Sunday, Aug. 4. Families can expect a call at 5:30 p.m. Those who do not receive a call or email, please contact the school office on Monday, Aug. 5.

A back-to school open house is set for 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 13 for students in grade 6; from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 for those in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten; and from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 29 for students in grades 1-5.

West Liberty Elementary

Back-to-school festivities will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Woodsdale Elementary

Students and families can come meet teachers and tour the school from 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Bridge Street Middle

A meeting for grade 6 and new students in seventh and eighth grades is set for 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 14. A "walk the bell" event for all students and their families will be scheduled for a later time. Parents will be accompanying their students on an abbreviated school day schedule during the gathering so that they can meet and talk with their teachers.

Triadelphia Middle

An open house is set for 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 14. Student schedules, General Summative Assessment scores, supply lists and yearbooks will be distributed.

Wheeling Middle

Students and families are invited to an open house at Wheeling Middle School from 3-5 p.m. on Aug. 15.

Wheeling Park High

The WPHS new student tailgate will happen from 4-7 p.m. on Aug. 14.
