By From Staff Reports 2 min read

WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital announced Monday that is has received one of the $10,000 River Valley Health Fund grants for this year for its Samaritan Fund Project.

The hospital's Samaritan Fund Project is used to help hospital patients who are in need and facing financial hardships.

In the past, it has been used to help those facing serious illness, some who were rebuilding after a natural disaster, those facing mental health concerns, provided assistance to patients in need of prescriptions and who are unable to afford them, and has been used to help purchase critical healthcare equipment.

"We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous generosity and gracious support of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley," said Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial and Wetzel County hospitals. "We understand the hardships many individuals and families in our area face and Reynolds Memorial hopes to be able to lift some of the worry and burden off of those in need."

This year's RVHF grants were awarded to 21 different organizations dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of the Ohio Valley community. The grant funds support nonprofit organizations in Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, and Wetzel counties in West Virginia; and Belmont, Jefferson, Monroe, Guernsey, and Harrison counties in Ohio.

This year's grants address healthcare vulnerabilities, emerging health issues, and access to high-quality care.
