Orchard Park Hospital Celebrates First Anniversary

Orchard Park Hospital celebrated its one-year anniversary Wednesday with news that it has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval.
The child and adolescent psychiatric hospital, located in Wheeling at the former Robert C. Byrd Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Center, is a 30-bed acute care facility accepting children and teens in crisis upon referrals from emergency room doctors throughout West Virginia and parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania. To date, more than 100 children and teens have received treatment at the hospital.
"We are excited to celebrate the one-year anniversary of patient care at Orchard Park Hospital," hospital CEO Jacquelyn Knight said. "Being able to provide this critical psychiatric care to our local children when they need it most has been so rewarding.
"We look forward to continued growth for our hospital as we open additional units and increase our ability to serve even more patients in need, ensuring that we remain committed to providing the best care possible," Knight added.
The hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization's commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
"We are so pleased to announce that we have been fully accredited through The Joint Commission," Knight said. "This is a monumental step forward for Orchard Park Hospital and true testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff to provide high quality patient care. We have a phenomenal team of employees who truly care about the work we do, and I believe it shows throughout the treatment stay for each patient."
The Children's Home of Wheeling created the nonprofit subsidiary Orchard Park Hospital, LLC, in response to the call for youth crisis services. Orchard Park Hospital provides a resource for families to be involved in the treatment of their children. The treatment programs stabilize patients through counseling, psychiatric services, and medication management, with the goal of setting them up for a successful discharge.
Orchard Park Hospital houses three units: one 13-bed unit for children ages 5-12; another 13-bed unit for adolescents ages 13-18; and one special care unit with four beds for a total of 30 beds. The facility also has a commercial kitchen, a gymnasium, and an outdoor activities area.
