In-person Christmas sign-ups have begun for any residents of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel or Tyler counties who think they may need a little extra help this holiday season.
Those seeking assistance can go to saangeltree.org or call 304-233-4400 to set up an appointment to register. One application will qualify a family for not only the Angel Tree, but also Coats for Kids, and holiday meal assistance.
Lt. John Lawrence of the Salvation Army in Wheeling says he hopes families in Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler counties experiencing difficulties won't hesitate to reach out.
"Last year, we were able to help over 750 children make lasting Christmas memories, but we know there were families which fell through the cracks and that is something we do not want to occur this Christmas season," he said. "We want to come alongside these families and show them that Christmas miracles can still happen, that they are loved, and that they are not alone."
The dates for in-person appointments during the 2024 Christmas sign-up season are as follows:
– Ohio County: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday at the Wheeling Corps building, 3333 Eoff St.
– Marshall County: Every Thursday in October from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 700 Jefferson Ave. in Moundsville.
– Wetzel and Tyler counties: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 at the Sistersville Volunteer Fire Department.
The Salvation Army's Coats for Kids program is a new coat program. Anyone wanting to donate gently used coats may do so at the Family Thrift Store on 16th Street in Wheeling throughout the holiday season.
