Local businesses throughout the city of Wheeling are getting ready for this year’s Small Business Saturday, a day where those businesses earn a place in the spotlight during the early holiday shopping rush.

Wheeling’s Small Business Saturday will happen this Saturday, and the city said shopping at small businesses is an important way to help the local community. For every dollar spent at a small business, the city said 67 cents stays within the community.

The city is also boosting the fun with special events and perks designed to make the day even more festive. The popular synthetic ice rink is returning from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the Plaza on Market, 1055 Market St. The public can skate free of charge and ice skates will be available to use.

The city is also offering another pair of free amenities to make shopping downtown easier for everyone. Free parking will be available until 5 p.m. at the Intermodal Transportation Center at 1401 Main St., next to WesBanco Arena.

There also will be a free trolley shuttle sponsored by OVRTA running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The trolley will make stops at Centre Market, the Plaza on Market and the Wheeling Artisan Center every 20 to 30 minutes.

The trolley schedule is as follows:

– Centre Market: 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m., 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

– The Plaza on Market: 10:10 a.m., 10:40 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 11:40 a.m., 12:10 p.m., 12:40 p.m., 1:10 p.m., 1:40 p.m., 2:40 p.m., 3:10 p.m., 3:40 p.m., 4:10 p.m., and 4:40 p.m.

– Wheeling Artisan Center: 10:20 a.m., 10:50 a.m., 11:20 a.m., 11:50 a.m., 12:20 p.m., 12:50 p.m., 1:20 p.m., 1:50 p.m., 2:50 p.m., 3:20 p.m., 3:50 p.m., 4:20 p.m. and 4:50 p.m.
