WHEELING – Lucky guests at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack hit the jackpot this week as the new and improved Wheeling Island Buffet made its debut.

On Wednesday, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack team members were joined by representatives of the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Wheeling to celebrate the official grand opening of the reimagined buffet.

The popular buffet adjacent to the casino area recently underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation that included upgrades to everything from the dining experience to the menu selections. After months of planning and 12 weeks of construction, Wheeling Island held a soft opening of the new buffet area last weekend and officially celebrated its debut Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“This buffet is completely redesigned,” said Kim Florence, president and CEO of Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. “It’s providing a whole new experience, and it’s very menu driven. We’ve upgraded the food quality, the food presentation, the service and the dining room experience.”

Officials said the buffet offers a smorgasbord of cuisine that is unlike any other in the tri-state area. Curated by Executive Chef John Greenwald, the new menu showcases regional favorites at a variety of stations, including fresh seafood, hand-carved meats, the popular made-to-order pasta and decadent desserts – all prepared with the freshest ingredients and exceptional attention to detail.

Florence said the elevated experience at the redesigned buffet is welcoming to all guests – from solo foodies to larger parties attending group events at the venue.

One of the newest features to the seating area is a separate private dining room that can accommodate up to 50 people.

“It can be used for small groups or for overflow seating in the dining room during busy weekends,” Florence said, noting that they actually added an extra day to the buffet’s operating schedule. “It’s now open Wednesday through Sunday.”

All-you-can-eat service offers more than anyone’s appetite could possibly tackle, and on Friday nights, the buffet also offers its popular all-you-can-eat crab legs.

We’re excited to bring a new level of dining to our guests with the launch of our buffet,” Florence said. “Our goal was to create a space and a menu that would appeal to everyone by offering an exceptional range of flavors in an inviting and lively atmosphere.”

The buffet will be open Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
