One Wheeling firefighter suffered minor injuries, but no one else was hurt Wednesday morning when the Wheeling Fire Department battled a house fire on Vance Avenue in Warwood.

The WFD responded to a call about smoke coming from the house around 9:25 a.m. Wednesday. The fire started on the first floor of the home and spread to the second floor. Crews put the fire out around 11:30 a.m., which was made more challenging by the wind, according to officials.

The fire damaged the house significantly and caused minor heat damage to a neighboring home. The house was not believed to be occupied. Other than the minor injury to one firefighter, there were no other reported injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. B Platoon Units with Engine Co. 2, 5, 8, and 9, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and Squad 2 responded to the scene.

Starting at $2.99/week.
