Wheeling Man Facing Felony Wanton Endangerment Charge

A Wheeling man was arrested Saturday morning on one charge of felony wanton endangerment after allegedly shooting at a parked motorcycle in Mozart several times with a handgun.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft, 34-year-old Lawrence Carney turned himself into police after Fairmont Ave. and Mozart Rd. had been closed for about an hour as the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Wheeling Police Department investigated the incident that occurred around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Croft said that Carney had been driving up Fairmont Ave. that morning when he stopped and allegedly fired several rounds at a parked motorcycle. Croft said Carney and the motorcycle’s owner allegedly had a prior disagreement.

Croft said Carney found an Ohio County Sheriff’s deputy and turned himself in. He was then taken to Northern Regional Jail. Bond was set at $7,500. The West Virginia Regional Jail Authority website did not have a record of him remaining at Northern Regional Jail as of Sunday night.

Starting at $2.99/week.
