Authorities Find A Vehicle in Ohio River, But Not the One They Were Looking For

Multiple public safety offices were looking this week for a car that reportedly entered the Ohio River near the McMechen boat ramp.

They found a car in the river, just not the one they originally were looking for.

According to the Benwood Fire Department’s Facebook page, the department and its dive team was working with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and a diver from the Moundsville Fire Department to find a vehicle that was said to have entered the river on April 19.

The organizations worked for two days in near-zero visibility to find the vehicle and found one via sonar Tuesday.

Yet, rather than finding the vehicle that entered the river April 19, they found one that had been stolen in Wheeling in 2023. It was found about 70 yards from the boat ramp, lying upside down.

The vehicle was recovered Wednesday by Middle Creek Garage. The findings were referred to the Wheeling Police Department, who will handle that investigation. The Benwood FD, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Moundsville FD will continue looking for the other vehicle.

Starting at $2.99/week.
