Tyler County Board of Education Names Feldmeier New Superintendent

The Tyler County Board of Education voted Monday night to promote Tricia Feldmeier to the role of superintendent.

Feldmeier currently serves as the school district’s director of human resources. She replaces Shane Highley, whose contract was not renewed by the board earlier this year. Highley will become principal at Valley High School in the fall.

Tyler County School Board President Katrina Byers said Feldmeier has been with the district for 26 years.

The board approved Feldmeier’s three-year contract unanimously.

The board earlier this year voted 3-2 twice not to renew Highley’s contract. Board members Diane Stender, Larry Thomas and Andy Shreves voted against renewing Highley’s contract, while Byers and board member Scott Strode voted to keep Highley.

The three members who voted against Highley’s renewal have not publicly stated their reasons, but Highley said there were three reasons that he wouldn’t return.

He said a refusal to adopt the Frontline database for hiring new staff, an interaction with someone at a high school sporting event and a dispute over the color scheme used in Tyler Consolidated High School’s uniforms were the reasons for his departure.

Starting at $2.99/week.
