Dozens of Park Players from Wheeling Park High School are preparing to take the stage for this year's spring musical, "Into the Woods," which runs Friday through Sunday at the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center at WPHS. Friday and Saturday's performances begin at 7 p.m., with Sunday's performance starting at 3 p.m.

Originating in 1986, the musical - with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine - is an intertwined story of various well-known fairy tale figures and unique music and mischievous situations arise.

"The set is astounding this year," said Ohio County Schools Public Relations Director Karin Butyn. "The students are incredibly skilled and heavily invested in bringing a great show to every single individual that comes into the PAC. As a county, we can't thank the adults that make this a reality for students enough.

"Director Katie Redd, musical director Joyce Jingle, technical director Russ Schultz, choreographer Cheryl Pompeo, and assistant directors Michael Romick and Julie Schultz have worked tirelessly with our students not only to produce a show, but to offer an experience," Butyn added.

Redd said that the performers in this year's musical are not just talented actors and vocalists, but their gifts are seen in many other areas of the school as well.

"Stepping into the J.B. Chambers Performing Arts Center this spring is like stepping straight into the pages of a fairy tale," Redd said. "This is a rare group of talented individuals who have come together to bring you something truly magical.

"In this cast, we have a Bucklew Scholar, an Underwood Scholar and prom queen, a first runner-up from our Queen of Queens pageant and Best Overall Artist in the state of West Virginia, along with WV Honor Band members, state speech champions, track stars and stellar athletes, and members of student council," she added. "It is just an amalgamation of the most talented and dedicated students in this school, and the show just shines."

Tickets can be preordered on Wheeling Park High School's website under the "more" option followed by selecting "WPHS Activities Tickets." Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
