Mobile Food Pantry Will Stop Tuesday at Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack

WHEELING — Wheeling’s next mobile food distribution event will take place Tuesday, June 17, from 10-11:30 a.m. at Wheeling Island Hotel‒Casino‒Racetrack, Parking Lot C.

Organized by the Ohio County Family Resource Network in partnership with Mountaineer Food Bank, this event aims to support West Virginia families with access to fresh, frozen, and shelf‒stable foods, depending on availability.

Local volunteers will help with everything from packing food to directing traffic.

“Families shouldn’t have to choose between paying a bill and putting dinner on the table. These events are about dignity, connection, and making sure people have access to food,” said Claudia Raymer, executive director of the Ohio County Family Resource Network.

Cars may begin lining up at 8:30 a.m.; early arrival creates traffic and safety concerns, so participants are asked not to arrive before that time.

Distribution will begin promptly at 10 a.m. One food box will be provided per vehicle. If there are two adults from separate households in the vehicle, each may receive a box after completing the required form. Those needing more than two boxes will be asked to drive through a second time.

Food boxes will be placed only in vehicle trunks — if the trunk is full or inaccessible, participants will be asked to pull aside to make space.

While this is a drive-through event, a designated area will be available for those who walk to the site.

No income verification or ID is required, but participants must provide a West Virginia address to receive food.

In addition to June 17, Ohio County mobile pantry events will also take place on Wednesday, August 21, and Thursday, October 23.

Those unable to attend are encouraged to visit one of the 24-hour Blessing Boxes located across Ohio County. These small, outdoor pantries are open to everyone and restocked regularly. Food pantry calendars for Ohio County, which list all local pantries along with their hours and eligibility guidelines, are also available at www.ocfrn.com. Starting at $2.99/week.
