Voters in some local West Virginia communities on Tuesday will go to the polls to elect mayors, council members and other municipal officials.
Ohio County sees only one municipal race, and it is for Valley Grove Village Council. There are eight candidates in the race, with seven to be elected. They are Sheila Everhart, Chad Kleeh, DeNean Miller, Tim Miller, Darlene Philabaum, Wendy Pearson, Steve Riggs and Gerry Trager Sr.
In Brooke County, there is an election happening in Bethany, but none of the races are contested. Running unopposed are Thomas Furbee, for mayor; Helen Moren, for recorder; and five candidates for council -- Patrick Sutherland, Kevin Clancy, Jay Eisenhauer, Jan Forsty and Jennifer Knisley.
Follansbee sees a contested race for mayor between incumbent David A. Velegol Jr., and Scott McMahon.
There are three candidates seeking a 1st Ward council seat - Anthony D'Ulisse, Paul Boniey and Tammy Johnson
John Casinelli is the only candidate seeking a 2nd Ward council seat; and Nick Cekinovich, the lone candidate in the 3rd Ward.
A race for the 4th Ward council seat pits Rudolph "Rudy" Cipriani against Stephen Varlas.
Former Police Chief John Schwertfeger is the only candidate seeking a council-at-large seat.
Also running uncontested are Larry Rea, for police chief; Michael Gaudio, city attorney; and David Kurcina for city clerk.
In Wellsburg, Mayor Dan Dudley will run unopposed for re-election, and Mike Allman is the only candidate for police chief.
Jack Kins is running unopposed for a 1st ward council seat; and Geno Capp sees no opposition in the 2nd Ward. Three candidates, meanwhile, want to represent the 3rd Ward. They are Tom M. Gaudio, Hunter Hamlin and Jeff Hawkins. In the 4th Ward, Charles Harris faces Larry Swanson for a council seat.
In Tyler County, there are elections in the town of Middlebourne. Dave Myers is running unopposed for mayor; and Angela Baker, for recorder.
Voters will elect five members to town council, and the candidates on the ballot are Justin Forrester, Bill Jenkins, Diana "Did" Slider, Patrick Rymer, Deanna Jones, Ben Thomas and Rodney Henthorn. Patrick "Pat" Shepherd is a certified write-in candidate in the race.
Also in Middlebourne, voters will vote on an excess levy to benefit the Middlebourne Library.
