Some Wheeling Juneteenth Events Canceled, Others Still On
The deadly flash floods of last Saturday – which devastated parts of Triadelphia, Valley Grove, Elm Grove and Woodsdale – have led to the cancellation of some Juneteenth celebration events originally scheduled for Thursday.
The Juneteenth ceremony scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday at Wheeling’s Heritage Port has been canceled, organizers said. Instead, Thursday will be dedicated as a Day of Service to support those impacted.
Some events, however, will still go on, with the added mission to benefit those affected by the floods. Thursday’s presentation of “The History of Black Music in America” at the Capitol Theatre Ballroom at 6 p.m. — a powerful celebration of resilience and culture – is still on.. All donations from this event will go directly to flood victims, first responders, and volunteers.
The R&B Brunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Wheeling Artisan Center and Soul Food Cook-Off from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Laughlin Chapel are still on as scheduled. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to those affected by the flooding.
