Several Recent Arrests Are Made In Moundsville Cases

Moundsville Police have made several arrests in recent days connected to multiple incidents around the city –including one that involved United States Marshals.

That case came July 5 and led to the arrest of three people on charges of aggravated armed robbery. According to a Moundsville Police arrest report, the victim came to the MPD headquarters the morning of July 5 to report that he had been “pistol whipped” and robbed by three people. Officers saw the victim’s left eye bruised and swollen.

The victim said the three people were Jesse Thompson, 21 of Powhatan Point, Stormy Hawkins, 32 of St. Clairsville, and someone named “Chaz,” which officers later determined to be Chaz Suarez, 23 of Moundsville. The victim stated that Hawkins had reached out to him through Facebook Messenger around 3:20 a.m. July 5 to come to his house, where he gave her $10 for cigarettes. She returned around 6:30 a.m. and the two went into the house where the victim fell asleep.

The victim said he was woken up to being struck in the face with a firearm and having a flashlight shined in his eyes, with one man telling him to “give me everything.” There was a safe in the room with a key inserted and, according to the report, the three attackers took five handguns, documents and the victim’s cellphone. Cameras at the victim’s house helped officers confirm the three suspects’ identities, according to the report.

On July 11, U.S. Marshals told MPD they were able to find Thompson, Hawkins and Suarez at Thompson’s house in Powhatan Point and, according to the arrest report, were able to recover guns that matched those stolen on July 5.

Suarez has been charged with one count each of robbery or attempted robbery; malicious or unlawful assault; grand larceny; wanton endangerment involving a firearm and conspiracy against the state. Thompson and Hawkins have been charged with one count each of robbery or attempted robbery; grand larceny and conspiracy against the state. All three are currently in Northern Regional Jail, Suarez on $500,000 bond and Thompson and Hawkins each on $250,000 bond.

Suarez was mentioned, but not arrested, in a separate incident where two women – Clarissa Mosser, 31 of Barnesville, and Margaret Denham, 27 of Moundsville, were arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

According to a Moundsville Police Department arrest report, the victim in that incident said that on July 11, Denham, Mosser and Suarez had threatened her with bodily injury. The victim said she had been staying at a residence that belonged to Mosser and that she and Mosser had an earlier argument about the two dating the same person, but the victim thought it had been resolved.

The victim then claimed that between 1:30 and 2 a.m. July 11, Denham ripped off her sheets while she was sleeping and ordered her into the living room. There, Denham, Mosser and Suarez allegedly were there and threatened the victim with a set of red brass knuckles with a knife attached and two handguns. The victim said the incident ended when she told the three she was pregnant.

The victim said that she thought the group had gone to Denham’s house and when police arrived there, they found Denham and Mosser, along with a handgun the victim claimed was brandished in the incident. When Mosser and Denham were questioned by police, they said an argument occurred but no weapons were brandished.

Denham and Mosser both were charged with felony counts of wanton endangerment involving a firearm and conspiracy to inflict injury to persons or property, as well as misdemeanor counts of brandishing deadly weapons and unlawful restraint. The two are currently in Northern Regional Jail, each on $25,000 bond.
