Speakers To Educate Public on the History of Marshall County at John Marshall High School

The History of Marshall County series, hosted by Marshall County Schools, has proven to be a popular program to date for the community.

Superintendent Shelby Haines talked about the series during a recent board of education meeting. She noted there are a few dates left for those who have not yet attended one of the free public lectures.

All lectures are held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at John Marshall High School’s Commons:

– On Oct. 2, Dan Gatts will talk about the Early Settlers Of Marshall County;

– On Oct. 16, Bill Wnek will speak about “Gravel Bottom — The Beginnings Of Glen Dale;” and

– On Oct. 30, Gary Rider will talk about “Miracle Valley — Business That Put Marshall County On The Map.”

The series is sponsored by Marshall County Schools and the Marshall County Historical Society.

The first event was held Sept. 18 and featured Hank Lutton, who spoke about archaeology and Marshall County’s prehistoric past. Those who missed the first lecture can find a video of it on the “Marshall County WV Historical Society” Facebook page.

Haines said about 25 people attended the first lecture.

“It was very well received,” she said.

Haines noted for the next three lectures students with the culinary program will be preparing and providing refreshments for attendees to enjoy.

Starting at $2.99/week.
