The Marshall County Board of Education recently recognized a few of its most recent award-winning staff members.

Superintendent Shelby Haines said employee Melanie Knutsen was recognized as the West Virginia CTE Counselor of the Year, and Alyssa Pytlak won the Adult Basic Education Outstanding Performance award.

Both women received the awards during the West Virginia Career Technical Education Conference held in late September by the West Virginia Department of Education.

“Both of these employees were recognized again by the Marshall County Schools Board of Education for their tireless efforts and dedication to the students of Marshall County,” Haines said.

The board also recognized Mark Fitzsimmons and David McCardle “for their dedication to serving the students of Marshall County through the work of the Marshall County Conservation District.”

“Specifically so many years hosting the Hands On Ag Day for students where they experience start-to-finish the importance of agriculture,” Haines said.

Fitzsimmons, who is a retired teacher, is a Northern Panhandle Conservation District supervisor. McCardle is also a supervisor with the district.

“Since 2009, the program has proven to reach more than 350 students and close to 250 adults, including teachers, parents, grandparents and siblings, each year,” according to district information.

Starting at $2.99/week.
