More than 100 people turned out for the city of Moundsville’s Monster Splash, a free swim held Wednesday at the Four Seasons Pool.

Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy said the city started holding free swims for its residents and others who frequent the facility.

“In the past few years, we have hosted Halloween and Christmas swim parties. It is a way for the city to give back to the residents and the patrons who use the facility regularly,” he said.

“We especially like the Halloween and Christmas events, because you don’t normally get to swim those times of the year. Having the indoor facility makes that possible.”

As part of the swim, some workers dressed in Halloween costumes and helped serve treats to the children in attendance. Lifeguards were on hand, too.

“The first 70 kids got treat bags that included chips, a drink, and some candy,” Healy said. “After they were gone, the others got a bag of chips and a drink. Also, we offered free popcorn to everyone.”

Healy is looking forward to the next free swim.

“We’re happy to provide these events, and look forward to an even bigger and better Christmas Swim party,” he said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
