The Salvation Army of Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel and Tyler Counties is gearing up for its annual holiday meal assistance and Angel Tree programs and anticipates helping at least 600 children this year.
Lt. John Lawrence, commanding officer for the region, said those in need of food and gifts for their children can sign up for the services in their home county.
In Marshall County, in-person sign-ups are underway and will continue Tuesday-Thursday each week until Oct. 16. Online signups at saangeltree.org will continue through Oct. 17. Marshall County’s new Service Center is located at 248 Jefferson St., Moundsville.
In Ohio County, in person signups are also underway and are being held at the corps building located at 3333 Eoff St., Wheeling, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday until Oct. 16. Online applications can be submitted at saangeltree.org through Oct. 17.
In Wetzel and Tyler counties, in person sign-ups are being held the next three Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Sistersville Volunteer Fire Department. Online applications can be submitted at saangeltree.org through Oct. 17.
“Our numbers over the last three years have continued to grow,” he said. “The Salvation Army served 342 in 2021; 381 in 2022; 498 in 2023; and 575 in 2024 through the Angel Tree program for kids ages 0 to 16. With the growth we have had in recent years we expect to serve over 600 children through the Angel Tree program this year.”
He reminds those who register online to check their email for updates.
“We have a number of applications that are on hold because we have not had a response to our requests for additional information or changes that need to be made,” Lawrence said.
