Work on New Moundsville City Building Shifts to the Interior

Work on the new Moundsville Municipal & Safety Building is moving to the interior now that the weather is getting colder and much of the exterior work is complete.

Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy said during the most recent progress meeting, he learned all aspects of the building are still being worked on, “but has moved to the inside.”

“The glass for the window frames was delivered yesterday,” he noted.

Since the last progress meeting, Healy said the following has been worked on and or has been completed: East and south side stormwater installation; final coping on the elevator roof; apparatus bay and other lighting; security cameras and data cables installed; HVAC start-up; drywall on second and third floors; electrical work and the hoist platform for the elevator; and flooring on the second floor.

“Over the next week we should see exterior site concrete being started, windows installed in the lobby area, and drywall being installed in the lobby,” he said.

Another progress meeting is slated for Tuesday morning with city officials and the contractor.

Construction of the new $12.5 million building is anticipated to be mostly complete by January. It will contain the city offices, fire and police departments.

It will also feature a drive-through for bill paying. The existing city building will be razed to make way for a new parking lot.

Work began in 2022, but there were some construction-related delays. Then the project’s former contractor, &build, filed for bankruptcy, halting the project all together for a few months. Great Lakes Restoration LLC, was announced in October 2024, as the new contractor.

Starting at $2.99/week.
