Community To ‘Stuff the Truck’ for Flood Victims Today at The Highlands

The Ohio County community is coming together Wednesday to make sure those affected by this summer’s flash floods are taken care of during the holiday season.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, and Triadelphia and Valley Grove volunteer fire departments, will hold a “Stuff The Truck” event from noon-4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Highlands Walmart.

Cpl. Austin Kitzmiller of the OCSO, who is spearheading the event, said the hope is to collect shelf-stable food items for the pantry for flood victims set up at Triadelphia United Methodist Church.

“Having seen first hand the devastation of the floods this past summer and working side by side with local agencies to help the communities get back on their feet, we are holding this event to show the community that we are here to help,” Kitzmiller said. “The recovery process will take months, even years, before it’s complete, and we want those communities to know that they still have support, especially as the holidays approach.”

Shoppers will be able to purchase food to be stuffed into the truck from the sheriff’s department.

Many Ohio County residents, mainly in the communities of Triadelphia and Valley Grove, continue to recover from the June floods that killed nine people and wrecked dozens of homes. Multiple organizations have stepped up since them to help those in need get back on their feet.

Starting at $2.99/week.
