MOUNDSVILLE -- Officials with WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital celebrated the opening of the new Reynolds Rapid Care location on Friday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in front of the health care facility located in the plaza next to the Aldi grocery store on W.Va. 2 in Moundsville.
The new facility has six exam rooms; twice as many as the old site that was located in a small plaza across from Walmart along W.Va. 2.
Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital, said the Rapid Care had outgrown its old location.
"In 2015, the first Rapid Care was opened in Moundsville and at the time there were some questions: Was there going to be enough business? Was this a sustainable model?" he said. "After 10 years and hundreds of thousands of visits later, that was a resounding yes."
He noted the site has a room dedicated for lab draws and an X-ray station.
Martinelli thanked the Reynolds Memorial Hospital Foundation and MPLX for their donations toward the new facility.
Also on hand for the event was Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy.
"When Rapid Care opened a number of years ago we were thrilled to have them in Moundsville and they quickly outgrew that space," Healy said after the ceremony. "We are thrilled to death they're here. It's a beautiful facility. It's just something else we can do to help the citizens of Moundsville and Marshall County."
Chuck Barkey, assistant vice president of IT for WVU Medicine's northern region, also talked about how patients will soon be able to use an app to communicate with the Rapid Care location and to also see the approximate service times at each location. In addition to Moundsville, Rapid Care locations are also in Benwood, Mount Olivet, downtown Wheeling and Martins Ferry.
