Marshall County has a new assessor, as Amanda Lockhart has been appointed to the position. She was sworn in Tuesday by Judge Richard Wilson.
Lockhart, a lifelong Marshall County resident, has worked in the county assessor’s office since June 2012. She started as an out-of-state plate investigator for former Assessor Chris Kessler and most recently as the business and commercial deputy.
Lockhart has worked closely with residents, business owners, and assessment professionals to ensure companies receive a fair and accurate valuation.
“I am honored to be appointed to this essential position by the Marshall County Commission,” she said. “I, along with my staff, look forward to serving the taxpayers of Marshall County with the highest degree of transparency, fairness, professionalism and integrity.”
Lockhart’s appointment fills the vacancy left by the resignation of former Assessor Eric Buzzard. Buzzard pleaded guilty in November to charges of felony embezzlement, conspiracy to commit fraudulent schemes and conspiracy to commit grand larceny, all committed in his position as assessor. As part of his plea agreement, he resigned from the position and can never run again for public office in West Virginia..
“My fellow commissioners and I have the utmost confidence in Ms. Lockhart,” Commission President Scott Varner said. “She has worked in the Assessor’s Office for 13 years in multiple positions. Ms. Lockhart understands the needs of the office as well as the needs of the residents and businesses in Marshall County.”
Lockhart and her husband Ross Lockhart are the proud parents of four children and have recently welcomed their first grandchild.
Because of the timing of the vacancy in the Assessor’s Office, she will file in January to run for the unexpired term ending on Dec. 31, 2028.
